Shaped Light Installation

Expanding the Shapes in Space installation came Shaped Light.

The simple addition of lighting into the space which was already a dark installation space was a great benefit and further exploration of the space and the shapes.

Lighting had been a consideration from the beginning, where even just by having the shapes in my studio illuminated in sunlight, i noticed the additional lines the shadows form. The shadows extend the shapes further and create an even greater abundance of lines and geometry even with the same number of shapes.

Working with the shapes in a contained installation space allows for more control with lighting, where the shapes and shadows can be made to form in a certain way.

This installation used a basic lamp to illuminate the space, yet provided intriguing results even given its simplicity.

Lighting proved an exceptional experiment as it was able to completely transform the space as well as the shapes themselves.

Mirror as a reflective surface reacts to light as its core function. Reflecting light to reflect the image, and also create new depths.

To play with the mirror and light is key in exploring the extent of the mirror material and form. The light reflects off the surface itself as well as creating shadow lines from the form of the structures. These two aspects elevate the work even further and add new intriguing and developing elements to the installation.
