Emerging - Final Installation
The final view of the installation piece 'Emerging' at Galgate Silk Mill.
This piece evokes a connection to an abandoned and cold space, literally drawing lines between the floor and ceiling. Not only does it bring life to the space, but is also revealing of the silk weaving practices once common in these rooms.
The white is a crisp glow amongst the old and worn-down space.
The light from the windows catches and illuminates the naturally flowing aspect of the thread, in the stark contrast to the long-standing support pillars.
The delicate glow evokes the gentle nature of the silk in the harsher factory production environment. The space which now remains as a contruction of memories, is now imbued with another fleeting memory - wherein this space has now enlarged its meaning to include the memory of this work.
